No Wine Snobs Allowed

We are about to have a snowpocalypse or rather we are in the midst of one for this area.  So I did what any normal human being would do in these circumstances - I went and got reserves!  The game plan was to get enough bubbly to last for what could be two or three days of nothing but snow, snow, and more snow.  While in the Total Wine aisle of all things sparkling, I happened upon a strange phenomenon - bubbly in a can - with a straw attached.  Say what?!  Well I did what any normal human being would do in that circumstance - I bought it (along with two other fine bubblies).  Then when I went to buy food to go with said sparkling, I decided to see what other fun packaged items I could find in the grocery store wine aisle and then I spotted a single serve glass of wine in a plastic cup thing.  So I did what any normal human being would do in that circumstance - I bought it!

I know that I would be considered by some a wine snob, but I firmly believe that every glass, bottle, box, and jug has its place in the wine world.  This would explain why I used to take a mini jug of Carlo Rossi Paisano with me to house parties in college.  And I would drink 1.5 L of Woodbridge for dinner parties.
And while there are many instances where I wouldn't be caught dead drinking any of those nowadays, I am not a wine snob (Contrary to belief).  And while I was a little skeptical - I was pleasantly surprised by both.

As soon as I got home, I opened the Fetzer Crimson Red Blend from California - Retail Price around $2.95.  Fetzer partnered with Zipzwine to create this fun packaging.  You unwrap, peel back the seal (that reminds me of one of those sealed orange juices we used to have for breakfast in high school) and viola - perfect glass of wine.  This was a fruity red blend with a hint of spice.  Perfect with my spaghetti with red sauce.   I'd do it again for a picnic or at a ballpark.

Next up is the Sofia Mini (by Francis Ford Coppola) Blanc de Blancs.  Carbonated.  And more importantly - its in a can!  With a straw.  This really is a grown up juice box.  Retails around $4.95.  It's a little sweeter than I would typically drink for a sparkling - it's a blend of Pinot Blanc, Moscato, and Riesling.  However, I have to say that it was fruity - lots of pear and apple aromas and flavors.  And sipping it thru a straw made me feel like the first time I drank a Pommery Pop - very posh and elegant.  (and not to sound like a snob, but yes, Sofia is not Pommery).  But I would take this somewhere in a heartbeat - - for it was quite tasty and so inexpensive.
