LifeFitness = Awesome

Those who have spoken to me in the last few months know how geeked I am to be at the Hilton Worldwide office.  And today solidified that I'm exactly where I need to be.  And why is that - you ask?  Two very important reasons.  One - today I read an article that said we were banning the service of shark fin on menus of any of our Asia Pacific hotels.  Which means I work for a company that actually cares.

Second - they just replaced our gym equipment at our facility with LifeFitness equipment.  Why is this important you will ask?  Well as anyone who reads this knows that I've been "broken" for the last couple of months.  Running hasn't been easy - working out hasn't happened - pounds have been gained, etc. etc.  After the New Year, I decided to start working out consistently again (or at least ease into it).  And I have been easing into it, but it has also been extreme winter (not as bad as Boston or Michigan thank goodness) but still running outside was not so much an option - - so what have I been doing?  Working out at the gym at work - - and it's been painful because I hate treadmill running.  So it's been 30 minutes of running interval hell for the last month.

Then today it all changed.

Because today I ran on the new LifeFitness Treadmill.  Not only is the technology completely off the hook - meaning you can plug in your phone and either play music or videos, you can stream videos, you can turn on the tv, but it also connects to an app that will upload your workouts (sorry Nike+) including your strength training exercises.  You just scan a barcode of each machine onto your phone and then record your sets/weight.

But an app isn't what made it cool (especially when I couldn't figure out how to save the workout afterward).  Nope - what made it so incredibly great is that I could pick a running course that was a virtual tour of some foreign land, so instead of just being inside on the treadmill - I went to New Zealand and run up Mount Eden, along Lambton Harbor, up Mount Victoria, and then into the German Rhineland.  All within 30 minutes.  But every time I went up a mountain - I felt it.  What a way to get invigorated and interested in running again.  I had to calm myself down because I wanted to keep going, but I know that if I run more than what my body tells me - I'll regret it for the rest of the week.

Needless to say - I'm doing all my inside workouts on that treadmill from now on!
