Half-way there!! To recap exactly what the challenge was and what has been accomplished in the matter of 10 days, I present a day to day recap beginning with the first 5 days.
Day 1:
Detox Menu: Blueberry & Pomegrante Smoothie, Spiced Butternut Squash Soup, Carrots & Celery Snacks, and Roasted Cauliflower & Red Peppers with Almonds & Olives; Poached Apples with Toasted Walnuts
(The first day was hardest because I became hungry almost instantly after my smoothie was gone - I've gotten so used to having a good kickstart of carbs and protein - this is good to remember)
Body: Did a Plank Series See List of Exercises - could manage 10 of them before my arms wanted to fall off, not to mention I had to test myself with pushups immediatly after (7 of them - that were not girly, but actual hearty full on pushups!); Followed this up with a 2 mile run
Mind: Was supposed to journal, but I did that the night before, so ahead of the game.
Life: Practice sleep hygiene. Turn off all gadgets an hour before bedtime, in bed by 10, lights out by 11. This too is hard to put into practice, but it is a habit I would like to try to get into at least 2 a week: to turn off the computer at least an hour before hitting the sack.
Day 2:
Detox Menu: Honeydew, Cucumber & Mint Smoothie, Sweet Potato, Apple & Celery Salad, Apple, Carrots & Celery Snacks, Brocoli & Squash Salad with Tahini Sauce
(I did cheat a little on this day to take some tylenol. In my defense I am still in the process of getting
over a cold, and I woke up with a sore throat on this morning; didn't feel too many hunger pains, but i have a feeling the 4th and 5th day are going to be harder humps to get through)
Body: Devote an hour to moving, which I did in my one-hour Pilates class. And of course, she killed our abs & arms, so I should feel that in the morning
Mind: I switched the plan around a bit and did a DIY salt, olive oil & rosemary/eculptus oil scrub. love the way rosemary is soothing and I should have good skin in the morning.
Life: Excavate your closet. I did this a few weeks ago, but always seem to feel the need to re--organize the closet, since it isn't a good closet and I can't find a lot of my clothing. This will turn into a full fledged weekend project because I will have to re--organize the jewlery and the shoes and the
accessories to go with it. One thing I have discovered is that I really should not be allowed to buy any more clothing, especially pullovers, shrugs, and cardigans (unless of course I don't have that color).
Day 3:
Detox Menu: Antioxidant Smoothie (Blueberries and Pomegrante); Avocado, Bell Pepper, Cilantro, Scallion, Cherry Tomato Salad with Lime Dressing; Celery & Carrot Snacks; Roasted Bell Pepper and Cauliflower with Almonds & Olives; Once again, I cheated a little bit and had some black tea (not supposed to have any caffeine and I've been drinking all decaf, but I was out sick this day and you do what you gotta do). The most important thing is that I didn't take any cold medicine - just flushing out this cold right along with the detox. I also didn't feel as sluggish or have a headache, which is also a good sign.
Will be re-doing Day 3 of the Whole Living Challenge since I was out sick and it was too easy to not work out & not wear makeup.
Makeup Day 3:
Detox Menu: Honeydew Melon, Cucumber & Mint Smoothie; Butternut Squash Soup with the remainder of the celery, radish, sweet potato, and apple salad; Roasted Caulifower with Red chili flakes; and Broccoli & Squash Salad; Poached Apples with Toasted Walnuts
(Still not a lot of hunger pains, which is a very very good thing!)
Body: Did a 35 minute walk (just 10 minutes shy of goal); Did 3-5 reps of the A series of movements
Mind: I tried to go without makeup, but ended up just going out with a light dusting of powder foundation. No other makeup was on my face :)
Life: Re-connect with old friends. This I attempted to do, however, I ended up leaving 3 messages with 3 friends from college, 2 messages for friends from Virginia, and contacted 2 people from high school via facebook. I also sent 1 friend from high school a postcard and one from college a card. I'm guessing the connection will be made somewhere on down the line, but we'll wait and see.
Day 5:
Detox Menu: Honeydew Melon, Cucumber, and Mint Smoothie; Celery, Sweet Potato, and Apple Salad; Bean Dip with Celery and Cucumbers (Snack); Garlic and Beet Soup. (Not supposed to have the bean dip until after the first week, but since I'm accelerating the 21 day meal plan into 10 days, I figure that won't kill me. This day was the hardest since all I wanted to do was eat French Fries and dinner was not satisfying enough (one of the reasons why I did the bean dip). I also slipped and had a handful of dark chocolate chips (once again, don't think that will affect things). I'm feeling good about making it five days and I'm bound and dertermined to not let myself slip. According to the scale, I've shed 10 pounds of crap and water!
Mind: Today was supposed to be a day I wore an outfit that accented my best feature. Since I only had to go grocery shopping, I didn't focus too much on this. Instead I wore a pair of pants that I hardly ever wear and matched a bright Spring-colored top with it (weather was beautiful on this day!). I got a compliment on the color when I was at Whole Foods, so that made my day.
Life: Replace junky, processed food with a piece of fruit - eh, already on the detox, so I guess I have that one covered.
